Let's Dive into the Technology

With a small, lean technology team we designed, architected and wrote 30K+ lines of code in 2 months to bring this product to life. This has given us a strong technical foundation upon which we keep building and iterating very quickly.

Last time I talked about some of the biggest learnings our early experiments have taught us, and how they have informed the core product decisions that make up the Pinky Promise experience. Now let's dive into the technology.

The universal rule about building anything from scratch is that as soon as you are finished there is a strong urge to throw it out and start again—because along the way, you’ve discovered a thousand ways to do it better. The experience of building Pinky Promise has been no exception. We embraced the lessons we learned, using them to refine and improve everyday.

Over the next few posts we will dive deeper into the Pinky Promise technical stack, why we made these choices, pros, cons and all the learnings along the way. For now - here is the sneak peak at technologies we work with.

  1. DialogFlow: Everything on Pinky Promise is a chat away - and Google DialogFlow is the backbone of this system.

  2. Flutter: Going cross-platform was a no-brainer, and choosing the right framework is key here. All our experiments led us to Flutter.

  3. Training Models for Medical Decision-Making: None of the cutting edge medical LLM’s cut it for our use case, because women are not small men. So we are training our own models to really move the needle on improving outcomes for Women’s health.

  4. ChatGPT for Instant and Empathic Responses: Not only are GenAI bots able to answer patients with the same empathy as a Doctor, but we have trained a RAG-based copilot for our Doctors that has learned their unique style of answering questions - thus maintaining that very personal touch.

  5. (Coming Up) Multilingual Experiences: Why is this especially challenging? Our users speak in a mixture of English and their vernacular language, typing in roman script. Fortunately, LLMs are excellent for handling this use-case!

  6. (Coming Up) Pinky Promise on Whatsapp: Building on top of Turn.io and OpenAI we are in the process of bringing the entire Pinky Promise experience directly onto Whatsapp.

We would love to hear your feedback on some of these technologies if you have worked with them.
